Translated AO3 Notification Emails
For many years, our coders and translation volunteers have been working to internationalize AO3. Today, we are excited to announce that registered users will now be able to receive notification emails from us in another language! If you are logged in to your AO3 account, you can go to your Preferences page and choose the locale that we will use when sending you emails, such as kudos or subscription notifications. We are starting off by enabling the option to receive notification emails in Simplified Chinese (中文（简体）). The 2025 OTW Annual Report is Now Available
We are pleased to publish the OTW’s 2025 Annual Report, available on the OTW website: 2025 OTW Annual Report. The report provides a letter from our Board of Directors, a summary of our activities during the past year, and our financial statements for 2025. Some highlights from 2025 include Tag Wrangling canonizing almost 400 new “No Fandom” tags, Transformative Works and Cultures being added to the U.S. Library of Congress, and the creation of the Organizational Culture Roadmap Workgroup—the first formal workgroup since the Content Policy workgroup was converted to a Legal subcommittee in 2017. OTW Board Meeting, October 10, 2026
The OTW Board will be holding its next public meeting at 01:00 October 10 UTC (what time is that for me?). This meeting will be held in the Board Discord server. The server will have a team of moderators and a set of rules (including question rules) and community guidelines. The server will remain open even after the meeting, but the channels for meeting and asking questions will be read-only. 2026 OTW Presenting New Directors
The Elections Committee would like to thank all of our candidates for their hard work in this year’s election. We would also like to thank our departing Board Directors, Anh Pham and Qiao Chu, for all their work during their Board terms. As previously advised, the Board of Directors is sorry to inform the membership that directors Erica Frank, elected in 2024, and Kathryn Soderholm, elected in 2023, stepped down from their positions on the Board prior to the 2026 election. Fanlore Security Incident
On August 6, 2026, at approximately 01:30 UTC, the OTW discovered unauthorized access to the server hosting Fanlore by unknown third parties. Additionally, the third party leveraged Discord permission vulnerabilities to post spam on the official Fanlore Discord server. If you have a Fanlore account, find further information below about what happened and what next steps you might need to take. What Happened An attacker gained access to Fanlore’s files and database.
