International Fanworks Day 2026 is Coming Soon!

February is approaching with faster-than-light speed, which means it’s nearly time for International Fanworks Day (IFD) once again! On February 15, we’ll gather for our 12th annual observance of IFD to celebrate all aspects of fandom, fan-communities and fanworks—fics, art, podfic, zines, filk, research and more—together! IVD 2025 Volunteer Q&A—Support Spotlight

Last November we asked the community to submit questions to our OTW volunteers in celebration of International Volunteer Day. In this series of posts we will spotlight some of our committees’ responses. Internally at the OTW, Support collaborates with other committees frequently, forwarding relevant questions and information to them, or consulting them on specific topics. Besides answering tickets, they also handle several other tasks, like maintaining the AO3 Known Issues page or assisting… Read more

The Randall Morgan Memorial Archive is Moving to the AO3

The Randall Morgan Memorial Archive, a Queer As Folk (US) fanfiction archive, is being imported to the Archive of Our Own (AO3). This memorial account was set up with the assistance of Open Doors and Irishcaelan, the maintainer of Randall’s personal website, Randall’s Rambles. Randall also wrote under the pseudonym Brian Hennessey. Randall Morgan was taken from us in 2013, and this site is a permanent place where the fanworks he so loved to create will go on. Open Doors will be working with Irishcaelan to import Randall Morgan’s works into a separate memorial account on the Archive of Our Own. As part of preserving… Read more

Celebrating AO3’s 16th Anniversary

AO3 is turning 16! It’s been another year of growth for AO3. Since this time last year, we passed both eight million and nine million registered users! We also passed 14 million, 15 million, and 16 million fanworks on the site, including one million works in Mandarin Chinese—the first non-English language to reach this milestone! AO3’s committees have also done a lot of important work this year! Accessibility, Design, & Technology published multiple important code releases, including security improvements like sending you an email when you or someone logged in to your account changes your username, password, or email as well as new features like… Read more
