Internal Complaint and Conflict Resolution Subcommittee

Who We Are

The Internal Complaint and Conflict Resolution subcommittee (ICCR) is a team within Volunteers & Recruiting (VolCom) working to resolve complaints from OTW volunteers about OTW volunteers, and related conflicts within the OTW.

ICCR as part of its regular duties:

  • Reviews, investigates, and adjudicates internal complaints filed by OTW volunteers for the entire organization, as well as their appeals
  • Mediates between parties in conflict and serve as a neutral party for personnel-related issues
  • Recommends corrective and preventive action plans and procedures for volunteers
  • Moderates open cross-committee and social cross-committee Slack channels.

However, we do not handle complaints related to OTW volunteers’ work performance. These are the responsibility of each committee’s Chairs to handle.

As part of our work, we regularly communicate with any committee or volunteer that seeks out our advice or help. This means that we can and do regularly communicate with almost every OTW committee. However, the main committee we speak to is our host committee VolCom. ICCR committees often double dip and work on both ICCR and VolCom tasks. We also may go to VolCom Chairs for advice or assistance on an as needed basis.

Internal Structure

There are two roles within ICCR: Leads and Volunteers.

ICCR Leads ensure the smooth operation of the subcommittee as a whole. They manage and support the ICCR volunteers, and are responsible for holding the subcommittee and its members to high ethical standards. They also frequently liaise with the Volunteers & Recruiting Chairs. ICCR Leads also complete the duties of an ICCR Volunteer.

ICCR Volunteers handle the committee’s investigative and enforcement functions. They complete the day to day investigations, adjudications, and mediation. They serve as a neutral party to resolve complaints, disputes and other issues. They also help develop, implement, and review ICCR policies and procedures so that they are in a constant state of improvement.
