Welcome to International Fanworks Day (IFD) Feedback Fest 2026! Feedback Fest is when we celebrate fanworks that creators have made on AO3 or elsewhere by recommending them to others and leaving comments for the creators as well.
Our theme for IFD 2026 is Alternate Universes (AUs), where we celebrate all the fun and exciting AUs that fans have created!

Leave a comment under this post recommending your favorite fanworks that involve an AU. Tell everyone why you love these works and why they should check them out. You can also link to a recommendation post you’ve made elsewhere, or create a new recommendation post on your social media accounts using the #FeedbackFest2026 tag. Keep the diversity of fanworks in mind when making recommendations—you can share fics, podfics, fanart, zines, archives, collections, newsletters, and anything that sparks joy in you about fandom. There’s many wonderful fanworks out there and we want to hear about all of them!

My absolute favorite AU fic! It mixes a bunch of my favorite tropes, like Fix-its, time travel (kinda), Gamer!AU, Reincarnation/Isekai! It’s also has the perfect balance of funny and comfort, which I really really needed after HSR canon killed me o(╥ᴗ╥)o And there are so many mysteries and lore and THINGS GOING ON in this fic that I’ve written 30K character per chapter in comments because I keep thinking of things to scream about. Forget living rent free in my head, this fic charges ME rent to live in my head (ᗒᗜᗕ)՛̵̖ I love this fic to bits.

I love “when i first decided i could not take a life” by an anon user, it’s a Life series SMP fic. It’s so fire! It’s a little short but I really love the vibes they were able to capture. and also I’m a sucker for royalty AUs, lol.

“Yuri, the Vampire Slayer” by Wynn, which is a Yuri!!! on Ice/Buffy The Vampire Slayer AU/Fusion. Absolutely delightful. Wynn has a way with words and is amazing at capturing raw emotions. The characters’ struggles are felt viscerally and you cannot help but root for them. The Author also has a really strong understanding of the characters! They feel very true to their canon versions despite the AU setting. I adore this fic despite it’s incomplete status.
“We Didn’t Start The Fire” by ohhgingersnaps – Superhero AU of Stardew Valley. What’s a burned-out heroine-turned-farmer to do when she realizes her new crush has a crush of his own… on the alter-ego she’s trying to leave behind? And how many other secret identities can one small town hold? Beautifully written, poignant and hilarious at exactly the right moments.

“Life is a series of trials” by MyFandomCausesHanaji.
Time-loop AU of Kingdom Come Deliverance where the main character has no control over his save points and just has to endure all the terrible stuff he’s been through, again and again. I appreciate that it’s not a fix-it, the character canonically has PTSD and this is very-well portrayed and explored in this fic, without using words that didn’t exist in the middle ages; he is going through everything that caused his PTSD over and over again. And you see him use real-life methods of using cognitive empathy in an effort not to lose his emotional empathy, which is also a great nod to neurodivergencies. Overall it’s very immersive in that you get pulled in to the torrent of emotions he feels, and you really want to see him get better, which you do, little by little as he gradually develops coping mechanisms.
The author is incredibly skilled at giving information to the reader that is not known to the narrator themselves without breaking the flow. Every word feels carefully thought out, beyond the story itself, every sentence carries meaning and it’s like poetry that belongs in a museum

Return to Me by ArcticPersephone is a Tangled the Series rewrite of Season 3 with the AU of where Varian never shared a cell with Andrew. It improves and expands on elements of the series to make a perfect ending to the series. It is truely a balm to anyone who was left wanting more from the series. The world building is beautiful, how the characters’ emotions progress is awe-inspiring, the attention to detail is impressive, and the content made me want to cry, it’s so beautiful. This isn’t my favorite fanfiction, this is my famous piece of media, and the best writing I have ever encountered. I went into more detail in my fawning in some of my comments but there are 82 chapters and I don’t remember which I commented on XD I love it so much

I have a couple! I mostly read F1 RPFs, but here we go.
The first is The Mysterious Affair at Woking by advantagealcaraz (justjamespotter). It’s a detectives AU with Lando Morris and Oscar Piastri as detectives working to solve a murder mystery. It’s 20k words and written so nicely (and it’ll get you guessing!) It also has a bit of romance sprinkled in.
Second is Katakan Putus. by dinocaurs. It’s a college AU in Bahasa Indonesia where Landoscar spy on cheating individuals and get paid by their partner who’s getting cheated on. This one is unfinished but in my opinion if youre Indonesian, this fanfic will give you lots of giggles. :)
