Position Title: News Post Moderator

Subcommittee: News Post Moderation (NPM) Subcommittee
Reports to: News Post Moderation Leads
Time Requirements: 1-4 hours/week
Term: 1 year, with extensions possible indefinitely
Role overview: News Post Moderators monitor news posts on AO3 and the OTW website. They take action on harmful comments, respond to user questions, and communicate with other committees to assist in drafting replies or respond themselves when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the incoming News Post comment feed
- Freeze, hide, and unscreen user comments according to the OTW News Post Moderation Policy
- Work with liaisons to address user questions and concerns relating to their committee
- Use the OTW News Post Moderation official accounts to respond to users
- Assist with beta reading upcoming news posts
- (Optionally) act as a liaison to any other committee(s) they serve on
Experience:
- No experience is required.
- Experience with content moderation or public relations preferred.
Skills, experience and attributes:
- Organizational and time-management skills
- Good English-language ability. Additional languages are a bonus but not required
- Diplomacy and tact in dealing with various constituencies within the OTW as well as outside it
- Maintains objectivity and professionalism in dealing with internal and external contacts
- Supportive of project members’ needs and concerns
- Demonstrates initiative in undertaking projects and managing tasks
- Ability to accept and give constructive criticism
Technology Requirements:
- News Post Moderators must have reliable access to a computer or laptop. NPM work cannot be completed solely on mobile devices.
Training Requirements:
- New NPM Moderators will be provided information and training by the News Post Moderation Lead(s) following the News Post Moderator Training Plan.
