Position Title: Systems Volunteer – Technical Writer

Time Requirements: 3-5 hours weekly (or more, depending on volunteer’s willingness)

Term: 1 year

Role overview: The technical writer supports the work of the Systems Committee by helping them to produce clear and accurate documentation – helping knowledge transfer within the Committee, on-boarding of new Committee members, and communication between the Committee and the rest of the OTW.

Key Responsibilities: Attendance at the weekly meeting. Taking a lead in getting Systems’ documentation in order, both for other members of Systems, and for documenting the work of Systems for the wider OTW. This may include one-to-one conversations with existing Committee members to aid knowledge transfer from them to the rest of Systems.

Skills, experience and attributes: Ability to write lucid and accurate text; happy to revise in collaboration with the rest of the team. Prior experience with technical documentation. Perfect English NOT required.

Training requirements: You can expect a few weeks of 1-on-1s with other System volunteers, at about 1 hour per week, to get you familiar with how our committee and the OTW tools work, and continuing 1-on-1s beyond that to cover aspects of our infrastructure.
