Position Title: Internal Complaint and Conflict Resolution Volunteer

Organization name: Organization for Transformative Works

Committee: Volunteers & Recruiting Committee Internal Complaint and Conflict Resolution Subcommittee

Reports to: Internal Complaint and Conflict Resolution Lead

Time Requirements: 5 hours/week

Exclusions:

  • Must not hold a position on any other committee of the Organization for Transformative Works outside of Volunteers & Recruiting at the time of induction
  • Must not hold a seat on the Board of Directors

Term: 1 year

Role overview: Internal Complaint and Conflict Resolution volunteers review, investigate, and adjudicate internal complaints filed for the entire organization; recommend corrective and preventive action plans and procedures for volunteers; review and manage the appeals process for complaints; mediate between parties in conflict and serve as a neutral party for personnel-related issues; and moderate open cross-committee and social cross-committee Slack channels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage misconduct case investigations, in accordance with the relevant investigation process
  • Mediate conflict cases, in accordance with the relevant conflict resolution process
  • Review and manage appeal cases, in accordance with the relevant appeal process
  • Adjudicate complaints cases
  • Manage cases and updates for both complaints and conflict cases in a timely manner
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and review of Internal Complaint and Conflict Resolution policies and procedures
  • Review and maintain the Internal Complaint and Conflict Resolution system database
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and care in handling, investigating, and resolving cases, taking care to abide by the policies and procedures in place
  • Moderate open cross-committee and social cross-committee Slack channels, in accordance with the relevant Slack moderation process
  • Assist committee chairs and leads in developing corrective action plans for their volunteers
  • Work collaboratively on Internal Complaint and Conflict Resolution subcommittee projects (e.g., building resource materials, conducting audits, etc.)
  • Attend and actively participate in committee meetings on a regular basis
  • Complete other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Internal Complaint and Conflict Resolution lead

Experience: Experience related to one or more of the below is desirable:

  • Human resource management or volunteer management
  • Mediation or conflict resolution
  • Documentation writing and/or training
