Internal Recruitment – Board Assistants Team Moderator

Position Title: Board Assistants Team Moderator

Reports to: Board Assistants Team Chairs

Time Requirements: 1 – 5 hours/week minimum, with peaks around the quarterly Board meetings

  • Former Board members whose term ended less than 2 years ago

  • Must have been an OTW volunteer for at least six months.
  • Must be willing to agree to a confidentiality agreement.
  • Must be willing to agree to a conflict of interest policy.

Term: 1 year

Role overview: BAT Moderators moderate the Board Discord during Board meetings and moderate comments on the AO3 and OTW News Blogs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Moderate public OTW Board Discord meetings, including tasks such as:
    • Organize questions for the Board to respond to during the live Q&A period.
    • Chat with meeting attendees and answer general questions in the meeting’s #open-chat channel.
    • Issues warnings and enforce compliance with server community guidelines.
  • Propose ideas to improve the OTW Board Discord.
  • Moderate comments on the OTW News Blogs on &
  • Communicate with chairs about availability and any issues that arise that may impact work.
  • Participate in Team meetings & checkins.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Good communication skills.
  • Calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to accept and give constructive criticism.


  • No specific experience is required.
  • Experience with any of the following is beneficial: content or chat moderation, public relations, Discord moderation, & website admin interfaces (e.g. AO3, WordPress).

Training Requirements:

  • BAT volunteers will be trained in all required tools, skills, and tasks as detailed on the BAT Volunteer Training Plan.
