Position Title: User Response Translation Committee Volunteer Coordinator

Reports to: User Response Translation Committee Chairs and Volunteer Coordinators
Time Requirements: 5+ hours per week
Term: 1 year
Role overview: Assist the Policy & Abuse and Support Committees in corresponding with AO3 users in certain high-need languages.
Requirements:
- Must be willing to agree to a confidentiality agreement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translation of Support and Policy & Abuse tickets and their replies by deadlines.
- Work collectively to complete consistent, high-quality boiler translations and discuss workflows with Support and Policy & Abuse through committee liaisons.
- Respond to urgent requests for translation assistance on Slack.
- Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive material, including AO3 users’ personal information and details of all tickets.
- Actively communicate with team members and volunteer coordinators about availability, task progress, and language team decisions.
Experience:
- No translating experience required.
Skills and attributes:
- Near-native fluency in writing both English and one other language under URT’s purview required.
- Ability to give and accept constructive critique of written work.
- Self-motivation and time management.
- Ability to work consistently and reliably meet deadlines for time-sensitive tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively as team member as well as completing individual responsibilities.
- Willingness to maintain confidentiality at all times.
Training requirements: Translators will be trained in all required tools, skills, and tasks as detailed on the User Response Translation Committee Translator Training Plan.
