Position Title: Finance Committee Investment Specialist

Time Requirements: Approx. 3-5 hours a week.

Term: 2 years

Role overview: Investment specialists manage the OTW’s investment portfolio and advise the Finance Committee on investing opportunities. They monitor account activity, analyze statements and reports, and provide suggestions on how to structure the investment portfolios to get the maximum return within specified parameters.

Date of position description review: August 2020 (annually)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitors investment portfolio activity
  • Analyzes investment statements to ensure that the rate of return is within expectations
  • Researches new investment opportunities
  • Provides objective analysis on the benefits and drawbacks of various investment vehicles and options
  • Ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations and integrity of financial data
  • Develops, maintains, and reviews policies and procedures for accounting internal control
  • Assists in creating Annual Financial Statements and other financial reports as needed
  • Collaborates with other Finance volunteers to carry out tasks and projects
  • Attends regular meetings and participates in committee discussions via email and chat

Experience:

  • Experience working with investment firms or investing on behalf of organizations or other entities required
  • Previous professional experience in the Finance or non-profit industries desirable
  • Knowledge of US accounting practices, such as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), desirable
  • Knowledge of federal and state (Delaware, specifically) tax requirements for US non-profit organizations desirable
  • Experience with Quickbooks or other accounting systems desirable
