Term: 1 year

Role overview: Fanlore Outreach Analysts are responsible for researching and analyzing Fanlore’s social media environment and fan activity on the internet at large. They research social media trends and hashtags that relate to Fanlore editor interests, monitor analytics and metrics to gauge success of Fanlore’s outreach efforts, and think of new ways to attract and retain new editors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research social media trends, hashtags, and other fannish activities, identifying topics and platforms that could benefit from Fanlore’s involvement.
  • Analyze data and metrics to create quarterly reports on social media metrics, clickthroughs on Fanlore’s social media posts, and editor engagement.
  • Brainstorm, plan, and research improvements to Fanlore’s social media strategy to reach fans, find editors, and improve engagement.
  • Work with fellow volunteers to improve the Fanlore new editor experience and increase rate of conversion and retention for new editors.
  • Attend meetings and participate in discussions outside of meeting times via email and chat to advance the committee’s projects and activities.
  • Communicate with Fanlore chairs with regards to availability, progress on tasks, and any issues that arise that may impact committee work.

Experience:

  • Required:
    • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Tumblr, Twitter, Bluesky, TikTok, and Instagram
    • Understanding of web traffic metrics/analytics
  • Helpful, but not required:
    • Experience in digital marketing or social media strategy
    • Experience with Fanlore as a user
    • Experience with social media management, community management or outreach

Skills and attributes:

  • English fluency
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good communication (writing) skills
  • Interest in wikis, wiki editing and/or fandom history
  • Ability to collaborate with a team to devise new ideas for, and approaches to, community building
  • Knowledge of best practices in digital marketing preferred
