Position Title: Social Media Moderator
Committee/Workgroup: Communications Committee
Reports to: Communications Chair(s)
Time Requirements: 3-4 hours per week
Term: 1 year, with extensions possible indefinitely
Role overview:
Social Media Moderators are responsible for creating and curating content for a specific OTW social media platform, engaging followers, and monitoring replies at that site. Moderators address user comments on posts and try to regularly engage with fandom on their respective platform by interacting with relevant posts and liking, reposting, and/or commenting (as appropriate to their platform’s norms).
Key Responsibilities:
- Curate and post content for the social media platform in line with Communications’ guidance
- Work as part of a team to plan content and moderate your platform
- Create graphics to accompany posts on your platform, either independently or with help from Graphics Volunteers
- Reply to user comments about the OTW and its projects, including communicating with other committees where needed to provide accurate information
- Report on discussions on the platform relevant to the OTW and its mission
- Regularly engage with followers (as appropriate to the platform)
- Seek out and suggest opportunities for the OTW to improve its engagement with the site’s users
Experience:
- Familiarity with the platform and its fandom culture required
- Experience in public relations or customer service preferred
Skills and Attributes:
- Familiarity with one or more of the OTW news outlet platforms required
- Strong communication skills required
- Ability to work independently and consistently on tasks required
- Knowledge of best practices or experience in social media from an organizational perspective preferred
- Understanding and awareness of social media trends preferred
Technology Requirements:
- Social Media Moderators must have access to technology able to connect with and utilize the functions of the platform they’re applying for. This normally requires access to both a mobile phone as well as a desktop computer or laptop.
Training requirements:
New Social Media Moderators will be provided information and training by the Communications Chair(s) following the Communications Social Media Moderator Training Plan.
