Position Title: TikTok Moderator

Committee: Communications Committee

Reports to: Communications Chairs

Time Requirements: 3-5 hours per week

Term: 1 year, with extensions possible indefinitely

Role overview: TikTok Moderators create content for the OTW TikTok account, including drafting scripts, recording and editing videos, and reviewing other moderators’ scripts and videos. Moderators address user comments on videos by responding to user questions, removing comments that violate our policies, and flagging comments for video topics. Moderators also try to regularly engage with fandom on TikTok by interacting with relevant, appropriate videos and liking, reposting, and/or commenting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Brainstorm, write, and review scripts for the OTW TikTok
  • Record and edit audio and video for the OTW TikTok
  • Proactively find content from other TikTok creators to interact with (liking, commenting, etc.)
  • Moderate user comments on OTW TikTok videos
  • Reply to user comments about the OTW and its projects, including communicating with other committees where needed to provide accurate information
  • Curate content for the social media platform in line with Communications’ guidance

Experience

  • Familiarity with TikTok and fandom culture on the platform required
  • Audio and video editing experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in public relations or customer service preferred

Skills and attributes

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Good English-language ability (additional languages are a bonus but not required)
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn about the OTW’s projects
  • Strong teamwork and collaborative skills
  • Ability to take initiative in undertaking projects and managing tasks
  • Ability to accept and give constructive criticism
  • Ability to communicate both formally and casually and represent the OTW as required

Technology Requirements

  • TikTok Moderators must be able to use the mobile TikTok app for comment moderation, as comment moderation tools are severely limited on desktop devices.

Training Requirements

  • New TikTok Moderators will be provided information and training by Communications Chair(s) following the Communications TikTok Moderator Training Plan.

Technology Requirements

  • TikTok Moderators must have reliable access to a mobile phone capable of running CapCut and TikTok.
