Transformative Works and Cultures has released No. 30.
This huge (12 full-length essays, five Symposium essays, and two book reviews) issue is our general issue, which comes out every September. Why so large? No print component; and TWC does not hold a backlog. Topics include the study of music in fan vids; slash; eighteenth-century prophecy; soap opera fans; Disflix; and fandom in China. We have an essay about Ginny Weasley, a close reading of a 2017 fan fic by chainofclover, and several essays on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The next issue of TWC, No. 31, “Fan Fiction and Ancient Scribal Cultures,” is guest edited by Frauke Uhlenbruch and Sonja Ammann. It will appear on December 15, 2019.
We particularly invite fans to submit Symposium articles. Email us if you want to write a Symposium article for “Fandom and Politics” or “Fan Studies Methodologies,” two upcoming themed issues that are otherwise closed to submissions.
TWC’s current calls for papers include the following issues:
- Fan Studies Pedagogies, papers due January 1, 2020.
- Fandom and Theatre, papers due January 15, 2020.
We accept on a rolling basis submissions for our general issues, which always appear on September 15.
