If you have questions regarding volunteering for the OTW, check out our Volunteering FAQ.

Support Volunteers

If you’ve spent time figuring out how to make the Archive dance (or are willing to press the button to see what happens), are patient in the face of strange questions, can self-motivate, and are interested in helping your fellow fans, we would love to hear from you! The Support team is responsible for handling the feedback and requests for assistance we receive from users of the Archive. We answer users’ questions, help to resolve problems they’re experiencing, and pass on information to and from coders, testers, tag wranglers and other teams involved with the Archive. We are especially looking for volunteers who are fluent in Spanish or Russian, in addition to English, helping to provide support to our growing overseas userbase!

Applications will close 20 April 2022 at 23:59 UTC or after 50 applications are received.

Strategic Planning Volunteers

The Strategic Planning Committee is recruiting new volunteers! We are a close-knit and collaborative committee of people who are tasked with researching, developing, and supporting the implementation of the strategic plan for the Organization for Transformative Works. We are looking for organized people well-versed in writing and project management, with experience in goal management and feedback response. Added knowledge of data analysis and leading focus groups are highly appreciated but not a requirement. We welcome all perspectives and are actively interested in people with diverse views on Fandom and the OTW!

Applications will close 20 April 2022 at 23:59 UTC.

News Translation Volunteers

Would you like to help translate OTW/AO3 news posts? We are looking for volunteers of native or near-native fluency in their target languages, who can translate or beta news posts within five-day deadlines. If you enjoy working collaboratively, if you’re fluent in a language other than English, if you’re passionate about the OTW and its projects, and want to help us reach more fans all around the world, working with Translation might be for you!

We particularly need people for Arabic, Bengali, Brazilian Portuguese, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Kyrgyz, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Marathi, Persian, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Thai, and Welsh — but help with other languages would be much appreciated.

(Please note that our Afrikaans, Catalan, Danish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, European Portuguese, Russian, Sinhala, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese teams are not accepting new members at this time.)

Applicants may be asked to translate and correct short text samples and will be invited to a chatroom interview as part of the selection process. More information about us can be found on the Translation committee page.

Applications will close 20 April 2022 at 23:59 UTC.

TWC Committee Review Editor

Transformative Works and Cultures is an international peer-reviewed Gold Open Access online publication about fan-related topics, promoting dialogue between the academic community and fan communities.

TWC review editors choose fan studies books for contributors to review and manage the timely assignment, revision, and completion of reviews.

TWC prefers two review editors to work together, so self-selected teams of two are encouraged to apply together; but single applications are of course welcome.

Applications will close 20 April 2022 at 23:59 UTC.

Hi! I’m a long time fan and writer in ao3. I read in Tumblr about working with you. I would like to be part of the news translation volunteers – I’m from Israel and know English pretty well.
