Legal Committee Intern

OTW Legal Committee Internship! The Legal Committee is looking for a current law student to join our team for approximately 8-10 weeks (start date is flexible). This Internship will provide a law student with a temporary position on the OTW Legal Committee, during which the student will participate in the activity of the committee and be supervised by other committee members.

The Legal Committee is responsible for carrying out the OTW’s legal advocacy mission and providing internal legal support and guidance to the OTW as an organization. We provide confidential legal advice to every part of the OTW organization, respond to fans’ requests for general assistance and information, and create educational materials. We also file briefs in lawsuits and advise lawmakers about how to take fans’ needs and interests into account in creating and interpreting the law.

A prospective intern should be studying toward a law degree (in the US or elsewhere in the world), and should be fluent in written and spoken English. The position will be unpaid and entirely virtual/remote. (We may be able to work with law school programs that provide compensation or credit for nonprofit work, but cannot provide in-person supervision.) If you’re interested, please click through to the application form!

Applicants should include on their CV the contact information for one or more academic or professional references.

Applications are due 1 March 2023

News Translation Volunteers

Would you like to help translate OTW/AO3 news posts? We are looking for volunteers of native or near-native fluency in their target languages, who can translate or beta news posts within five-day deadlines. If you enjoy working collaboratively, if you’re fluent in a language other than English, if you’re passionate about the OTW and its projects, and want to help us reach more fans all around the world, working with Translation might be for you!

We particularly need people for Afrikaans, Arabic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Czech, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Korean, Kyrgyz, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Marathi, Persian, Russian, Serbian, Sinhala, Slovak, Slovenian, Thai, Turkish and Welsh — but help with other languages would be much appreciated.

(Please note that our Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Swedish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese teams are not accepting new members at this time.)

Applicants may be asked to translate and correct short text samples and will be invited to a chatroom interview as part of the selection process. More information about us can be found on the Translation committee page.

Applications are due 1 March 2023

Volunteers & Recruiting Volunteers

Are you great at admin and enjoy the satisfaction of completing short tasks and ticking them off to-do lists? Or do you have experience in HR, volunteer management, data privacy and other related areas? Volunteers & Recruiting is looking for additional volunteers to help our busy team!

Volunteers & Recruiting volunteers guide and manage services, policies, recruitment and volunteer management for the entire organization; compose and maintain organization policy and training documentation; and communicate with other committees and workgroups in the Organization for Transformative Works on matters related to organization tools and staffing needs. Volunteers & Recruiting volunteers also serve as a neutral party for personnel-related issues.
