Retiring Our Amazon Widget

The OTW is retiring our Amazon widget; we ask you to please disable your “I heart OTW” Firefox extension if you installed it. Amazon no longer supports widgets or other Amazon Associate / nonprofit fundraising devices that don’t have banners or ads attached, and the OTW prefers not to have any corporate advertising on its site. We will not be receiving any donations from the use of this widget: however, please feel free to donate to us early and often through the usual channels.

    It made me sort of sad to tell Firefox that yes, I want to uninstall “I [heart] OTW.” Because of course I still [heart] OTW! But if Amazon’s not going to give us any money, then there’s no point in keeping the widget installed…

    I was introduced to your site when I followed a link on a ReTweet and read the blog post about Amazon Widget. It was surprising to me that Amazon had a clause like that. The other thing I found intriguing is OTW’s preference on not having corporate advertisements on its site. Is there a fundamental belief that all of OTW community or its founders share that drives this decision?

      We aim to be a nonprofit modeled on NPR or public television: member supported, offering our services for free.
