International Fanworks Day Drabble Challenge

Banner by Ania of various fanworks including cosplay, text, and visual art

The drabble challenge is on!

In honor of International Fanworks Day, February 15, we’re issuing our first-ever IFD Drabble Challenge! Get out your tablet, your laptop, or your phone and write up to 100 words to celebrate fanworks! (Why 100 words?)

What does your favorite character–or your favorite pairing–get fannish over?

  • Does Tony Stark secretly watch–and love– Transformers fan films?
  • Does Athos ship Aramis/Porthos?
  • Do the members of Shinee cosplay as Final Fantasy characters??

But our challenge isn’t for writing alone — submit a drawble, a short vid, an audio work or other format for the challenge as well! Just post it February 15 as part of the day of celebration.

Help us find and share it!

Tag it #IFDrabble on tumblr, Facebook, Dreamwidth, or wherever you fan! (And if you post it on Archive of Our Own, tag it with the International Fanworks Day 2015 tag!)

Keep it safe-for-work, and we may give you a signal boost!

Want to tweet instead?

Post fannish haikus on Twitter with the same hashtag!

There will be more details about IFD events to come as February 15 approaches. In the meantime, tell us how you and your fandom communities will be taking part!

How about if I try a 155 word challenge? It’s an X-Files thing. “Scully in 155” has a small collection on AO3, for example.

    • Claudia Rebaza commented:

That sounds great! We definitely want to hear from everyone about how they plan to take part, and we hope fans will be coming up with their own ways to celebrate. The #IFDrabble challenge will hopefully just be one of many out there.

  2. Patricia Andrews commented:

If I did a short drabble of about 200 words, would that be a small enough to be excepted? And how do you add a video (in this case, turn one in) to one of your stories? Or for one of your stories?

    • Claudia Rebaza commented:

Do you already have an account at AO3? If you wanted to add a video to a post there, you’d need to upload it to another hosting site and then use their embed code to add it to your AO3 post. But works can be posted anywhere you participate as a fan.

If it’s at AO3, anyone can add content to the International Fanworks Day 2015 tag so celebrate however you’d like!

  3. Lauren commented:

Hi ^_^. Can I do more than just one drabble if I make it a series on ao3?

    • Claudia Rebaza commented:

      Absolutely!

  4. Emily commented:

Hi there! My drabble is a little longer than 100 words; it’s about 150. Would it still be acceptable? Thanks!

    • Claudia Rebaza commented:

      Sure!
