It is extremely important to the OTW and AO3 that the original creators of any fanwork are fully credited and have as much control over their work as possible. Open Doors has designed their tools and procedures to ensure that all reasonable efforts to contact creators are made before and after their works are imported to AO3, all creators are fully credited, and creators always have the opportunity to claim/delete/orphan/change their works as desired. We want to ensure that as many creators as possible are aware of what is happening, and have the opportunity to get in touch with us if necessary.

In order to ensure that all reasonable efforts to complete these goals are made, we require that the import/backup process go through Open Doors.
