Position Title: Elections Chair Track Staff

Time requirements: 15+ hours per week during election season, 5+ hours per week during other times
Term: 6 months to 1 year
Role Overview: The Chair Track Staffer position is designed for people who have lots of time and motivation to learn the ins and outs of all Elections’ activities. It aims to prepare staffers for a chair position in 6-12 months by combining assigned tasks, individual study and training, and shadowing other staff. The person in this role works toward being considered for the role of chair by the OTW Board, meaning that becoming chair isn’t a guarantee, and staffers can choose to leave the chair track and remain on the committee in another position for any reason.
Elections Committee staff are not allowed to run for election for the year they serve in, nor to be a current member of the Board of Directors.
- Shadow the committee chair(s) and staffers from each specialty to understand the various tasks performed by the committee.
- Learn to Chair by participating in key responsibilities of the Committee Chair.
- Participate in recruitment, if the committee does that while you’re a CTS.
- Learn to chair meetings, and be prepared to do so when the Chair is not available.
- Actively seek out assignments to work with other committees on tasks or projects.
- Participate in project planning and completion, especially for items on our Roadmap.
- Learn and practice effective task delegation and other management skills.
- Create, edit, and update committee documentation.
- Undertake individual study of OTW activities, committees, and workflows so as to have a broad view of the organization and the role of Elections within it.
- Communicate with chair(s) regarding availability, progress on tasks, and any issues that arise that may impact committee work.
General Committee Responsibilities:
- Attend at least two-thirds of all Elections Committee meetings.
- Participate in the writing of newsposts, announcements, and documentation.
- Participate in discussions about the elections process.
- Participate in monitoring and running of contested elections.
- Experience working to deadlines is required.
- Fannish experience, regardless of type, is required.
- Experience learning quickly in a new environment is required.
- Managerial, supervisory, or leadership experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience running an election (government or private) is a plus but not required.
- Experience organizing large fan activities (cons, etc.) is a plus but not required.
- Prior OTW experience is not required.

Elections Committee Staff will receive training in OTW Tools and procedures following the Elections Committee Staff Training Plan.
