There was a bizarre event in the world of YouTube vlogging this week. Marina Joyce, a 19-year-old fashion vlogger from London, uploaded a video that concerned her fans.
I. TRANSLATION RECRUITMENT AND NEW LANGUAGES
Translation has been focused on recruitment this month: the committee received 50 applications, and will welcome 26 new volunteers, including three new languages: Hindi, Romanian and Welsh! They also conducted a survey of their teams to get to know more about internal issues they’ve faced, and updated their map on the OTW website showing where in the world you can find Translation members.
The Translation team makes sure that as many people around the world can engage with us as possible – every new language makes our work more accessible to a global audience.
This past week was VidCon 2016 in Anaheim, California, USA. Though the convention is growing, there was a focus on the connection between media producers and audiences. In his keynote speech, vlogger and author John Green spoke about the importance of community: “What’s good for your community is good for your business, and what’s bad for your community is ultimately bad for your business… I would encourage you not to worry so much about how many people watch what you make; worry about how many people love what you make.”
